Hello everyone! Welcome to my Deadpool movie review. This will be my spoiler free review. I'll probably post a spoiler review tomorrow or Tuesday. Just to make sure everyone gets a chance to see it on its opening weekend without spoilers. Without further ado, let's begin.
Deadpool is directed by Tim Miller and stars Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, T.J Miller, and Ed Skrein. Ryan Reynolds plays Wade Wilson who's an ex mercenary who gets diagnosed with terminal cancer. He undergoes treatment that turns him into a superhero, but also leaves him really disfigured. So he goes on the hunt for the man who treated him.
I'm going to start off by saying, that this movie is fun from the opening title sequence on. I had an absolute blast with this movie. I knew a little bit about the character of Deadpool. But now I can say with absolute certainty that he is one of my favorite comic book characters. The jokes in this movie were just spot on! Ryan Reynolds makes fun of the Green Lantern movie he did a few years ago. And he makes fun of the Deadpool in X-Men Origins Wolverine. It boggles my mind to think that FOX actually ok'd some of the jokes in the movie. Because Deadpool makes fun of FOX studios a lot in this movie. This movie was rated R. It would not have worked at all if it was PG-13. Some of the jokes would've fallen flat if it hadn't been rated R.
Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson was fantastic. I've never been a huge fan of his. However, much like Sylvester Stallone plays a great Rocky Balboa, Ryan Reynolds plays a great Deadpool. Reynolds had great chemistry with Morena Baccarin who played Vanessa. Vanessa was the love interest in the movie. While I was watching the movie I thought to myself this is actually an appropriate movie to be released on Valentine's day weekend. Ed Skrein played the main Villian Ajax. He did a very good job as well. He made for a very entertaining fight scene at the end of the movie. Also I feel I should mention that this movie has the best version of Colossus we've seen on screen as well.
If I have any flaws with the movie, they're personal. They have nothing to do with the structure of the film at all. There are over 100 Easter eggs in this film. Way more than any other comic book movie we have. That's a lot to process for me. But I'm nitpicking at this point.
Overall I loved Deadpool. It did a great job at balancing out the humor and the violence. There are two post credit scenes so be sure to stick around for those. I'm going to give Deadpool a 4.75 out of 5. A sequel has already been green lit so I'm very happy about that. Let me know in the comments if you've seen Deadpool and what you thought about it. Thanks for reading everyone.
