Looper Review

I never went to see Looper in theatres, but I've heard many good things about it. So last week I went ahead and picked up the movie on blu-ray. After watching it I felt the need to write about it.
Looper takes place in the year 2044. Time travel hasn't been invented yet, but it will be in the future. It will be immediatley outlawed and is only used by big criminal syndicates. Whenever the mob wants to get rid of someone they send them back in time where a looper is waiting to kill them and dispose of their bodies. Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays a looper and things are going well for him until the day when the mob decides to "close the loop" they send back his future self played by Bruce Willis. The first time I saw a trailer for this movie I thought that was all there was to it, but its not there are layers to this movie.
One of the big strengths to this movie is there's great dialogue. There's intense dialogue, there's small talk, etc. One thing I love about Joss Whedon scripts and Quentin Tarantino scripts is that aside with big action scenes in their movies there's also alot of great dialogue. This movie was written and directed by Rian Johnson and I would say he's one director to look out for in the coming years.
One thing I will say is that there's a kid in this movie. A kid in a sci-fi/action movie almost never works out. However this character makes sense. It made sense to me that he was in this movie. Most kids in sci-fi/action movies just end up annoying me but not in this case.
I remember I really wanted to see this movie in theatres. Mainly because Bruce Willis is one of my favorate actors, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt is an up and coming star. This movie pleasently suprised me. I really enjoyed this movie. I'll give this movie 4.7 out of 5 stars. It was definatley one of the best movies of 2012.
